This one was written just for catnip_martini, who needed something non-angsty to cheer her up! J/P, 331 words. And I stole a line from Hamlet for the title because I'm a dork like that.

When John Lennon was pissed at you, you tended to find yourself doing anything, anything at all, to get him to be your friend again.

Such as baking cookies.

Paul McCartney was no cook; when left to his own devices he tended to eat cornflakes for dinner and ice cream for lunch. Which was why he had people to do this sort of thing for him.

But at the moment, he was trying to appease John, and he knew that if he was seeking forgiveness, he had to do this himself. When he delivered these cookies, he had damn well better have a burned finger and cookie dough in his hair.

The two burned fingers weren’t really necessary, but at least it was his left hand. This meant he couldn’t write or do much of anything else, but he could play. It hurt like hell to strum with burned fingers, but it was much worse to do the fingerings with them, so Paul was thankful.

The first tray of cookies was very burned, and the second was a tad too crispy around the edges. Not good enough.

By the third tray, however, Paul had gotten the hang of the oven, and the next three trays were perfect.

Paul gathered up his big box of cookies, a carton of milk, and a smidgen of courage and headed over to John’s house.

At the door, he grinned hopefully at John, holding up his offering. John smirked and bit into a cookie. “Why, that’s heaven in a cookie!” he proclaimed. “Now, Paulie, why are you baking for me?”

Paul mumbled, “I hate having you mad at me.”

John melted like the chocolate chips. “Aw, Paul, you didn’t need cookies, all you had to do was show up with that adorable face of yours, I couldn’t be mad at that. All the same, thanks for the cookies!”

John leaned over and kissed Paul on the nose, leaving a smudge of chocolate to mark his territory.

Why is the image of Paul with bandaged fingers and dripping with cookie dough the most adorable thing ever?

Once Paul mentioned that they had both baked breads.John gave him his recipe when they were talking by phone not long before his death. In 1979 Linda also mentioned that during the bakers strike Paul had baked the most beautiful bread!

Re: pepper4land
Ahaha, I knew about John's bread baking phase, of course, but I don't think I knew about Paul!
